Hammers

Piledrivershop is part of the Van ‘t Hek Group – one of the larger piling companies in the Netherlands. We are usage specialists of diesel, hydraulic and vibratory hammers as we are using the hammers and more in our daily work for over more than 70 years. So we are aware of all the advantages and disadvantages of the various used diesel, hydraulic and vibratory hammers and brands.

Used diesel, hydraulic and vibratory hammers

Used Hydraulic Pile Hammers

A hydraulic pile hammer is an advanced piece of equipment that drives piles into the ground using hydraulic force. It is mounted as an attachment on a pile-driving crane and offers efficiency, precision, and significantly more environmental friendliness compared to traditional piling equipment.

Main Components of a Hydraulic Pile Hammer

The hydraulic pile hammer consists of several essential components:

  • Power Pack: A separate unit with a diesel engine powers a hydraulic pump, which in turn drives the hammer.
  • Hydraulic System: Includes a hydraulic pump, hydraulic oil, cylinders, and valves that control fluid flow and pressure.
  • Hammer Block (Drop Weight): A heavy steel weight that is lifted by a hydraulic cylinder and then dropped to create impact.
  • Hydraulic Cylinder: Responsible for lifting the hammer block.
  • Latch Mechanism: Holds the hammer block in place before it is released.
  • Control System: Regulates the hammer’s striking force and frequency.
  • Pile Cap: Centers the pile on the hammer guide during driving.

Applications of Hydraulic Pile Hammers

Hydraulic pile hammers are widely used in various types of projects, including:

  • Bridge construction
  • Building foundations
  • Port structures
  • Offshore projects (such as wind farms and oil & gas platforms)
  • Coastal protection
  • Underground excavations

They are also well-suited for driving different types of piles:

  • Steel sheet piles
  • H-beams
  • Pipe piles
  • Concrete piles
  • Wooden piles

Thanks to their high efficiency, precise control of striking force, and reduced noise and vibration levels, hydraulic pile hammers are ideal for use in densely populated environments such as urban areas.

Used Vibratory Hammers

A vibratory hammer is equipment used to drive or extract sheet piles, pipes, or steel profiles into or out of the ground by means of vibrations. How does it work exactly? High-frequency vibrations are transferred to the pile, loosening the surrounding soil and allowing the pile to penetrate the ground more easily.

Key Components of a Vibratory Hammer

  • Power Pack: An external unit with a diesel engine powers a hydraulic pump that drives the vibratory hammer.
  • Vibration Damper: Isolates vibrations from the crane.
  • Gearbox: Contains eccentric weights that generate vertical vibrations.
  • Clamp: Grasps and holds the sheet pile securely.

Vibratory hammers are widely used in construction for driving various types of profiles such as steel sheet piles, pipe piles, H-beams, and—on rare occasions—wooden piles.

They are especially effective in loose or sandy soil conditions. Models with variable frequency are often chosen for their relatively low noise levels, making them suitable for projects in densely populated areas and near historical buildings.
